Each cup is presented on its own finely textured ceramic base. The clay is made of corundum, the mineral makeup of rubies and sapphires. Traditionally only used industrially for machine parts, corundum can be fired at higher temperatures than porcelain, making it extremely durable while retaining its delicate translucent character.
